NETS UP,
a bridge between generations.
The ‘Nets Up’ Project, a collaboration between The Youth Fund, SCG Chemicals (SCGC), and the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR), aims to address the issue of ocean plastic pollution by tackling the problem of ghost nets—abandoned or lost fishing nets that harm marine life. The project focuses on collecting these discarded nets and repurposing them into new, useful products, such as plant pots and textiles, like t-shirts, combining the efforts and the minds of the youth with the resources and ability of adults.
By engaging coastal communities in the collection process, the Nets Up project not only removes dangerous marine debris but also raises environmental awareness and promotes sustainable practices. The initiative emphasizes the circular economy by transforming what would be waste into valuable resources, fostering both environmental stewardship and community involvement in protecting marine ecosystems.
